In international development today, we see a surge of South-South cooperation, that is, the response ofcountries in the Global Southto the longstanding hegemony ofcountries in the Global North(Gray and Gills 2016). Trilateral cooperationis a form of innovative South-South cooperation that ‘involvesdevelopment actors mainly from the global South and also a wide range of actors, drawing from their respective strengths and working towards a commongoal’ (Han2016: 2). The United Kingdom (UK)and China have increasingly piloted trilateral cooperation(ibid). This paper will explore the potential trilateral cooperation between the UK, China and Sri Lanka.en
