The economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on households and businesses in Rwanda has been significant. The impact on low-level income-earning Rwandans and the many small and micro-businesses have been of particular concern. Data collected by the IPAR-Rwanda show that households in Kigali and Rwanda’s secondary cities – such as Musanze, Rubavu and Rusizi – reported that in February 2021, incomes had reduced by 40 per cent on average compared to before Covid-19. At the same time, businesses reported that average turnover and profits were around 50 per cent lower than they were in February 2020 before the outbreak of Covid-19.en
