Critiques of formal education in society have reached a consensus that formal education has failed to provide training sufficient for living. Non-formal education has been strongly suggested as one of the major alternatives in providing this kind of training. In view of this, therefore, this inquiry is intended to make an empirical examination of how non-formal education is related and affects levels of living of rural families and what its concomitant factors in such a relationship are. Justifications for their study are given, which centre on closing the gaps that are left by formal education and providing training to those who are out of the formal school system. This study hinges on two theoretical perspectives: one that purports that formal education is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for improving levels of living for rural families, and the other that holds that non-formal education is a more efficient tool in improvement of these levels of living. A short literature review on the topic of this study is discussed. Working hypotheses are listed and brief definitions of operational variables are given. Methodology to be utilized is discussed, covering area of research, sampling, and measures intended for use in analysis.en_GB
