Tine prevalence of excessive exposure to organophosphates in pesticide manufacturing factories in Zimbabwe is high. It is possible, through simple and inexpensive measures such as reduction in smoking at the workplace, improvement in personal hygiene and basic worker education programmes, to significantly reduce the prevalence of excessive organophosphate pesticide exposure at the workplace. Since symptoms are a pool- indicator of exposure to organophosphate, the importance of biological monitoring and using the simple and relatively inexpensive World Health Organisation (WHO) cholinesterase kit is of utmost importance in identifying workers at risk.
