This paper attempts to analyze the role of observation ih the development of student teachers’ teaching skills during the teaching practice. While it is acknowledged in this paper that student teachers may also develop their teaching skills by being observed by their pupils; mentors and college supervisors, the analysis in this paper is restricted to student teachers observing their mentors teach. The paper also discusses what teachers’ colleges and schools should do ih terms of preparing student teachers for the “observation period”.en_GB
