A Geographical Proceegings article on the location of Zimbabwean (Rhodesian) industries as of 1953.en_GB
The decision to locate an industry at a particular place depends on the consideration of a wide variety of economic and none economic factors. These include the availability and costs of transport facilities, access to raw.materials and markets, infrastructure and services required by industry. The presence of financial institutions, as well as numerous social and personal considerations. Locational analysts have attempted to formulate general theories of location based on economic cost considerations alone. Yet others, appreciative of the importance of non-economic and therefore unquantifiable factors in industrial location, are more interested in finding explanations for the actual spatial patterns rather than the ideal locations.en_GB
