Engaging with local communities to prevent violence: what role for ICTs?
Abstract
A two-page summary of research from the Action Support Centre and Coventry University which reflects on how ICTs fit in with the relationship-building that is essential in initiatives to prevent violent conflict. It concludes that external agencies should be wary of introducing ICT innovations as short-term ‘fixes’, instead supporting locally driven mechanisms for strengthening communication – which may or may not include ICTs.
