Anabel Marin

Research Fellow - Institute of Development Studies (UK) - Conicet (Argentina) (Economics; Environmental sciences; Other economics; Heterodox economics; Other environmental sciences not elsewhere classified)

Dr. Anabel Marin is currently a Research Fellow and the Leader of the Business, Markets & State Cluster at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS). She is also a CONICET researcher in Argentina (currently on leave). Dr. Marin founded Bioleft (http://bioleft.org/), an open-source initiative for seed breeding, and is a member of the Global Coalition of Open-Source Movements (GOSSI). Additionally, she serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal Innovation and Development and is a guest editor of the special issue "Focus on Social and Environmental Aspects of Resource Extraction of Energy-Transition Minerals" in Environmental Research Letters.

She holds a degree in Economics from Cordoba University, a Masters in Development from the University of General Sarmiento, and a PhD in Science and Technology Policy Studies from SPRU, Sussex University. From 2007 to 2009, she was an ESRC post-doctoral researcher and worked as a research fellow at SPRU.

Dr. Marin is interested in utilizing multidisciplinary approaches to address economic, sustainable, and inclusive development challenges. Her work encompasses research, policy advice, activism, and the development of cultural products for sustainable development (see: https://www.youtube.com/@anabelimarin/videos). Her current projects focus on science and innovation policies for drug development, green industrial policies, structural change associated with natural resource industries; democratisation of science and innovation systems for agrifood systems; socio-environmental conflicts and economic and ecological transitions, institutional innovations for the management of common resources, and digitalization of the health sector. Dr. Marin has provided research consultancy for international organizations such as the International Development Research Center (IDRC), the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office - UK, United Nations Commission for Trade & Development (UNCTAD), the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), UNESCO, and UNIDO, among others. She has led numerous national and international research and action projects on sustainability, business and industrial development, science, technology and innovation policy, and trade and industrial policy, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the International Social Council, the Global Consortium for Sustainability Outcomes, the Conservation Food and Health Foundation, Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, The Latin American Council of Social Sciences , and the Argentinean Council of Science and Technology. In 2018, she was seconded as a full-time member of the Directorate of the National Commission of External Trade in Argentina.
