This rapid literature review collates available case studies on disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR). These should be considered illustrative rather than representative of the diversity of experience. It is also important to note that DDR processes are often tailored to adapt to local, national and regional conflict dynamics and, as such, replicability in other contexts may not be possible. Assessing the effectiveness and relevance of DDR programmes is challenging given methodological dilemmas linked to the shortage of baseline data, and a reliance on qualitative or limited, localised quantitative evidence of success or failure in individual dimensions of each programme.
