This report focuses on community-based health insurance (CBHI) for Bangladeshi workers. It examined the different models of CBHI programmes or schemes for both formal and informal sector in the Bangladesh, and the challenges in the implementation. In addition to this, it also examined the impact of CBHI in terms of better access to health and health equity in Bangladesh. It draws on evidence found on both academic and grey literature sources, as well as anecdotal reports. It identifies that although there is little evidence on the impact of CBHI in terms of better access to health and health equity in Bangladesh, it is reported that as a result of health insurance workers have increased access to affordable health services, RMG (Ready Made Garments) factory owners’ ensured better health facilities for their workers, the average health seeking behaviour of the worker increased and the return of investment in health is seen to have a positive impact and contributes to improved working conditions and productivity (Uddin, n/d).
