A state level workshop to share, learn and plan with quality and sustainability in the context of Swachh Bharat Mission was organised in Bihar on 29th to 31st October 2018. It brought together 75 participants from 10 districts of Bihar, viz., Katihar, Banka, West Champaran, Begusarai, Aurangabad, Nalanda, Bhagalpur, Bhagalpur, Siwan, Patna and Madhubani. Seven of these districts are allotted to WSSCC by Government of India to support as development partners and remaining are the districts where Global Sanitation Fund was implemented. The workshop was designed to provide and facilitate a learning platform for sharing experiences and ideas between these districts. Several requests were immediately received for similar workshops in other districts of Bihar to cover the entire state.
The workshop concluded the most critical next steps are: for districts to implement the action plans that were developed; to continue to share innovative practices with other districts through RAL in other districts; to partner with development organisations to set up a RAL Unit in Bihar; RAL workshops with Bihar Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (BRLPS) - to promote learning, sharing and exchange of best practices in Jeevika among the state.
