Uganda is a state whose various tribes and communities subscribe to the principles of 'patriarchal societies' in whose structure man is the subject, boys are the issue and all members of the female sex are still referred to in terms of the Biblical story of creation. Our customary norms and practices are a clear manifestation of the subordinate classification of "woman". Our state laws likewise reflect the lenient accommodation of customs and beliefs that are biased against women.
